Hidden behind Madison’s Historic Train Depot, The Harvey House is a celebration of Wisconsin’s iconic supper clubs. Brought back to life by Midwest natives Shaina and Joe Papach, the old Baggage Claim House (and Train Car!) is now home to a stunning renovation where the history, culture and cuisine of the 19th century collides with modern design and culinary inspiration.

Its name is a nod to both Shaina’s grandfather and the endlessly entrepreneurial Fred Harvey; This restaurant is a true family affair with Joe leading the kitchen and Shaina leading all aspects of design and business development. At its heart, The Harvey House is inspired by the Golden Era of Train Travel and the Post Prohibition boom of Supper Clubs in the Midwest. Expect a boisterous atmosphere with an energetic mix of Doo-Wop, Classic Jazz and Big Band Standards where guests can unapologetically enjoy esteemed Wisconsin classics like the Brandy Alexander, Grasshopper and Whiskey Sours along with a coterie of classic craft cocktails.

Designed by Brooklyn-based Home Studios, The Harvey House’s interior seamlessly incorporates the building’s original brick walls and woodwork with new marble details, locally sourced vintage fixtures and fully renovated open kitchen with a custom Bonnet Cooking Suite. With over 150 seats dispersed across multiple levels, guests can choose their own adventure in our fully glassed-in Train Platform, First Level Bar, fully refurbished Private Train Car, or the cozy and sophisticated Second Floor - all complete with murals depicting pastoral Wisconsin landscapes commissioned by artist Jessica Nielo-White.

The menu celebrates its Midwestern roots featuring continental cuisine with its own modern twist - see the Superior Whitefish with Pumpernickel, Savoy Cabbage and Horseradish Sabayon or the Chicken Schnitzel with Canoe Harvested Rice, Charred Broccoli and Lemon Jus. Classic cocktails such as our Ice Cold Martini or Jerry Thomas Manhattan, and a thoughtfully curated wine list, foster an unmistakable atmosphere of Midwest congeniality where restaurants are once again destinations where strangers become friends.
